welcome

The Indigenous Peoples Day Newton Ceremonial Celebration is an annual event that takes on Indigenous Peoples Day in Newton, Massachusetts. It is organized by the IPD Newton planning committee, an Indigenous-led group of volunteers who reside in Newton, MA and surrounding areas. We held the inaugural Celebration in 2021.

our mission

To bring visibility to and uplift the voices of Indigenous peoples in the City of Newton and beyond.

our vision

To plan and produce an annual Ceremonial Celebration on Indigenous Peoples Day in Newton.

Our Ceremonial Celebration spotlights and celebrates the music, dance, poetry, and visual art of diverse Native artists who currently live in the Northeast and beyond.

It is a free, outdoor, daytime, family-oriented cultural and spiritual celebration that is open, accessible, and welcoming to all. The goal is to make concrete the city's recent recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day as an official city holiday. We hope for this event to become a beloved annual event on our city's calendar.
